Copyright restrictions on maps
There are limits on what you can copy from maps under copyright law:
- Ordnance Survey maps are in copyright for 50 years after the year of publication
- Goad plans – shopping centre maps – are in copyright for 70 years after the year of publication
During this period you may make up to four copies of a single A4 sized extract, if these are required for non-commercial research or private study.
Ordnance Survey and Experian Goad are often willing to grant special permission to students for additional copying. Please obtain this in writing from the appropriate organisation and show it to library staff when you want to make photocopies. Contact them at:
