Events listings' policy

Terms of use for postings

If you would like your event to appear in our What's on listing please submit your event using the online form. By doing this you agree that:

  • your event does not contain any defamatory or illegal material of any kind, and is not in relation to committing an illegal act
  • you have the right to submit the event and that it does not infringe the rights of third parties or plagiarise material (including but not limited to copyright, privacy, publicity, personal or proprietary rights, impersonation and trade marks or trade secrets).

East Sussex County Council will not publish events that are not compatible with East Sussex County Council’s policies on equal opportunities, diversity, dignity and respect or which we consider offensive, defamatory, illegal, of a sexual nature or advertising.

Should you submit such an event you will be formally warned by email, and the County Council reserves the right to decline future events submitted by you. The County Council also reserves the right to inform the Police and/or take legal action against you.

The County Council may also pass information about you and your actions to relevant third parties such as your employer, school or email provider about the infringement(s).

Only events which are held in East Sussex, Brighton & Hove, West Sussex or Kent, or which are held by partners of East Sussex County Council will be published.

The position of East Sussex County Council

Whether an event is published on the What's on listing is at the absolute discretion of East Sussex County Council. We are not required to publish details of every event received and reserve the right to withdraw any events at any time.

Unless otherwise stated, East Sussex County Council is not responsible for events listed here, and has no involvement with the organisations or individuals named.

East Sussex County Council will not mediate between organisers of events and participants.

East Sussex County Council will update the events listings twice a week.

Children's events

Children's events are not endorsed by East Sussex County Council, and we do not vet organisations that run these events. We do try to make sure that events are run by legitimate organisers. However, parents and carers need to make their own judgement about the safety of any organisation or organiser advertising events on our website.

If you are aware of any concerns about an organisation or organiser of an event please contact Fiona Johnson, Head of Children's Safeguards and Quality Assurance at East Sussex County Council – tel: 01273 481289 or email: fiona.johnson@eastsussex.gov.uk

Making a complaint

If you do not agree with the decision of the What's on listings’ moderator not to display an event, you can make an appeal. Appeals should be sent in writing to Lynn Evans, Head of Communications at the address at the foot of this page. Your appeal should include details of why you disagree with the moderator’s decision in view of East Sussex County Council's terms and conditions stated here.

If you believe an event does not adhere to the terms and conditions stated here, you should complete our Questions and comments form. Please state clearly your reasons for disagreeing with the publication of the event in question.
