Waste Busters
Would you like to learn how to reduce the amount of rubbish you send to landfill and have the chance to choose from a range of prizes?
The average household in East Sussex produces around a tonne of rubbish each year but if a family composted all its organic waste they would reduce emissions by 13 kg of methane a year.
Recycling is important, but there is so much more we can all do to reduce the amount of rubbish we make. Luckily more and more people are taking actions to help reduce carbon emissions and reduce our rubbish mountain.
Become a Waste Buster household and learn how to reduce the amount of rubbish you send to landfill. You could also choose from a range of prizes.
What does becoming a Waste Buster involve?
As a Waste Buster you will receive an action pack stuffed with ideas on how to reduce your waste and a checklist to see if you currently reduce, reuse or recycle all that you can, or if there's more you can do.
You will need to pick a week to focus on and see if you can slim your bin. You then record your results on the monitoring form and return it to us.
If you qualify as a Waste Buster household you will receive a choice of prizes. Full details in the pack.
Can small changes really make a difference?
Lots of people are already trying to make a difference. In East Sussex last year:
- 28% of all household waste was recycled. That’s 55,084 tonnes – about the same weight as 6,000 double-decker buses
- 653 washable nappy packs were distributed, saving about 480 tonnes of waste from landfill and saving £28,338
- Over 9,198 East Sussex households registered with the Mailing Preference Service to stop junk mail
- 4835 home composting and food waste digester units were sold, stopping an estimated 679.9 tonnes of waste going to landfill and saving £37,906.
Who can be a Waste Buster?
