Poetry competition 2007 – My Deep Dark Place, by Christopher Norton
First prize (11–17 years category)
In a deep dark place
There’s a deep dark wood
Apples crash
In a deep dark wood
There’s a deep dark patch
Trees lash
In a deep dark patch
There’s a deep dark tree
It is dark
By a deep dark tree
There’s a deep dark me.
I hear the lark
I can hear the evil silence
I can see the misty air
I can feel the freezing cold
But I still don’t care.
‘cause when I’m in my quiet place
I can act like me
Because the person you see before you
Is the wrong me.
